Gavyn Rhone; AMAZING TALENT, INCREDIBLE BLESSING

•March 24, 2008 • 1 Comment

While out here I’ve met quite a few amazing people. One of these that has been a HUGE inspiration, great friend, and incredible blessing is Gavyn Rhone. Gavyn is the brother of my very best friend EJ. Ej and I have worked on a ton of music and I had to wait 2 years before I got to meet his brother Gavyn. Gavyn is an accomplished vocalist and has been in the industry as a signed artist for 8 years. He has really taken me under his wing as well as asked for my help as he sets out as a solo artist as he has just recently parted from his group. I have been to big industry parties including a private birthday party for a pair of stars that had Tank and Gavyn as guest performers. Gavyn and I have also been going to a great blues bar called Cozy’s that has AMAZING music every night. This was the first place I got to hear Gavyn live and it was CRAZY. People started throwing money on the stage. LITERALLY! He has taken me to a studio where NEO and BRANDY did a lot of their first work. That has led to me being invited to come in and write with them at this studio! What an incredible opportunity!

Gavyn is great friends with Tyrese and the Edmonds family (Kenny ”Babyface” and Tracey Edmonds) and I’m looking forward to meeting all of them.

I am just so blessed. So blessed………….to think that God has taken me across the country in one direction, back to the another coast in the opposite direction and it hasn’t even been a year…    I’ve met Andre Fischer who is responsible for Natalie Cole’s unforgettable and Tony Bennett’s come back. My good friend (Gavyn) is the best vocalist I’ve ever heard and I am blessed to call him FRIEND.  Debbie Sandridge (of Diana Ross and MoTown). And a whole bunch more. And it’s only a matter of time before I’m kickin’ it with the likes of Dre, Timbaland, Hi Tek, and all the people that have inspired my music. And to all of this….ALL OF THIS…..I think only two words, or sets of two words…

 PRAISE GOD.  THANK GOD.

A Day At Alan Ett Creative Group

I have made the travel to LA as an intern for Alan Ett Creative Group which has three companies under that one “parent name”.

I work mostly with Opus 1 Music Library which is a production music library that supplies all types of media with music. I usually roll into work at 8:30 and get going on casting which consists of me listening back to music that has recently been added to our library and inputting it into FileMaker Pro by Genre, Mood, Instrumentation, and Tempo. We have four of our own catalogs and represent atleast 10-12 others. I do a ton with royalty administration, song registration, and accounting. I work with a very sharp lady named Emily who tracks all of the songs and makes sure that the company is getting paid what it should be. I register songs and composers with Performance Rights Societies and have learned a TON about the relationship between Publishers and Sub-Publishers.

At another company called Media City Sound, I have had the opportunity to sit-in on spotting sessions where a music supervisor watches down a tv show or movie that has no music and “spots” the music over the video to help tell the story and convey the necessary emotions. Sometimes there is a “temp” score to help the MS know which direction the production studio wants them to go with the music and sometimes not. I’ve also sat in on the music editing in which the music editor takes the spotted music and edits it down to fit the frames of video and further tell the story through the music that the Music Supervisor has chosen. Next was into the dialogue editing and sound fx editing studios where it’s all about making things one solid level and editing out any unwanted pieces of audio. And of course adding the effects that should be there but aren’t.

I’ve gotten to talk to and get to know Scott Liggett who is an Emmy Award winning producer for Alan Ett Music Group.

I’ve recently helped create the companies new International version of their main AHCD catalog which was a huge project. Linking composer and publisher info on over 9,500 tracks and a ton more.

Although this is perhaps vague it is a glimpse into my every day.

Living an LA Life

I love it here. I really find it hard to imagine life without living it in Los Angeles. As I said last time it is such a fast paced atmosphere but I have fallen in love with it as I feel more comfortable here than I ever have in my life. I wake up at 530 every morning excited about what the day has in store. Lunch comes before I know it because I’m enjoying every second so much. I stay up late late and wake up at 530 again to start all over. This is just a brief rant to serve only as a intro to other blogs about my day to day schedule and activities.

God Bless

At least four sentences…

So, here I am at home and as usual I’m incredibly busy. Los Angeles is a completely different world, but I must say that I have found it to be a perfect fit for me. I’ve always been one to be busy and not bored so when I got here and saw that the industry is at a sprinting pace here, I was excited because I no longer felt like I wanted to run but couldn’t. I’ve gone from wishing and praying for a “running partner” or a “workout partner” if you will, and now I don’t need to look any further. Everyone out here is running. The ones that aren’t fall fast. In fact, after only five weeks out here I’ve already witnessed people faltering.

I guess I’m not sure how to open up this series of blogs. Charley asked me to “Please just get on and write four sentences…” so I’m hopping on to write this brief intro.

I hope that anyone that even knows this blog exists will find it informative, entertaining, and worth while to read. I am not really one to blog in the first place so it is a new thing for me.

I hope that this finds all its readers doing well and enjoying this amazing life.

God Bless
